I love author James Rollins, aka James Clemens. He write the techno-thriller genre with equal parts of nicely scripted action, character development, and scientific facts and theories, maintaining his position towards to established institutions in the world neutral, avoiding taking any unnecessary stance or subjective critic—think about Dan Brown, but well done.

Books I like: Jane Seville's Zero at the Bone
I just spend the last four hours finishing “Zero at the Bone,” by Jane Seville.
A hitman with a self-coined sense of justice is blackmailed into killing a witness in a big-time mobster’s trial. In what is the weakest moment of the novel, “D”, the murderer, spares Jack’s life, whom he never wanted to eliminate anyway.
